Here are the answers to the most-asked Residence Life questions. If you can’t find the answer to your question here, email us at reslife@njcu.edu.
A: For the fall semester, you’ll know your room assignment at the beginning of August. For the spring semester, you’ll receive your room assignment at the start of January. Since room assignments sometimes change, check your to see your up-to-date room assignment.
A. Yes, you may select your room once your housing application has been submitted and your deposit paid or waived. If you do not select your assignment, the Office of Housing and Residence Life will assign your room and roommates.
A: Yes, we encourage you to request roommates. Requests may be submitted through the online housing application, through your or by sending an email to reslife@njcu.edu. We try to accommodate roommate requests, but they are not guaranteed.
A: If you do not select your roommates or elect to go with a random roommate assignment, the Office of Housing and Residence Life will make the assignments using your housing roommate profile as built by you on the housing application.
A: Once you are cleared by the Bursar's office and Health and Wellness for immunization, you will receive your check-in information by your NJCU email account. This will include process information and check-in times for your building and floor.
A: Your room has an XL twin bed, desk, desk chair, dresser or under-the-bed storage and a wardrobe or closet.
A: Yes, all three residence halls are equipped with NJCU Wi-Fi.
A: Refrigerators are permitted in your room, but they are limited to the following sizes: 1.7, 2.5, or 2.7 cu. ft.
A: Microwave ovens are not permitted in your room. However, each residence hall has a common kitchen facility for the preparation of snacks and light meals.
A: Sorry, but for everyone’s safety, hot plates, toaster ovens, electric skillets, coffee/hot water pots, sandwich grills, juicers and other electrical cooking appliances are not permitted in residence hall rooms.
A: You are encouraged to make your room your own space, but we do require you to hang your posters, photos and pictures using reusable adhesive strips instead of tape, pushpins and tacks. Also note that curtains, banners, hanging fabrics, flags and full-wall posters are not permitted.
A: All residence students share bathrooms, but the type of bathroom depends upon the hall to which you are assigned. In Vodra Hall, residents share suite-style bathrooms (two rooms joined by a single bathroom). In West Village Campus, each apartment has a shared bath for its residents. Co-Op Hall has community bathrooms.
A: The dining services meal plan is mandatory for all resident hall students and begins with dinner on the first day of check-in.
A: Meals are served seven days a week, except on major holidays when the university is closed. The Student Union Café offers a wide variety of selections, including restaurant-style entrées, a sauté bar, daily grilled specials, a salad bar and more. Visit the NJCU Gourmet Dining Catering and Dining website for more information.
A: Each residence hall has a community laundry room.
A: Laundry is free in all three residence halls.
A: All mail is processed through the NJCU mail room. When you receive a package, you’ll get an email with instructions on how to pick up your package at the Vodra Hall lockers. If a package is too big for the lockers, the email will tell you where to retrieve the package.

A: Yes, all students are allowed cars on campus. Parking passes may be purchased through Parking Services.
A: Unfortunately, we do not provide storage.
A: The Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours a day and is always available to respond to any emergency or request for public safety services. Officers patrol the campus in vehicles and on foot, including all parking areas. In addition, officers are assigned to all residence halls. And a campus escort service can always be requested. On campus, dial 55 in an emergency. Direct dial is 201-200-3128. Email DPS at public safety@njcu.edu.
A: No, the residence halls do not have a curfew.
