Requirements for New Students
All new and transfer students must comply with NJ State and University immunization requirements. In addition, all students under the age of 31 who are enrolled full-time as either an undergrad or graduate student must submit proof of the immunizations below when admitted to the university.
- Two (2) immunizations for Measles (Rubeola).
- The two Measles vaccinations must be given at least 28 days apart.
- One (1) for German Measles (Rubella) and one for Mumps (Parotitis)
- The Measles, German Measles, and Mumps must have been given on or after the first birthday.
- If you are taking (12 or more credits), you must provide documentation of 3 Hepatitis vaccinations or a titer indicating immunity.
- Students in university housing must also submit proof that they have received the meningitis vaccine. The meningitis vaccine must be given at the age of 16 or later.
You will be allowed to register for one semester as per New Jersey Higher Education Immunization requirements but will not be permitted to register for any additional semesters until you have successfully met all of the above immunization requirements.
If you cannot locate proof of these immunizations, you can have blood work done by your primary medical provider to prove immunity to Measles, German Measles, and Mumps. You must submit a copy of the laboratory data to Health Services per New Jersey state law (NJAC 8:57:6.1-6.13)

Exemptions
A student shall be exempt from immunization requirements for medical or religious reasons, provided they meet the criteria set forth at N.J.A.C. 8.57-6.14 and 6.15, respectively.
In addition, an institution may make an exemption for the following categories of students:
- Students born before 1957 for the measles, mumps, and rubella (M.M.R.) vaccination requirements only; or
- Students enrolled in a program for which students do not congregate, on-campus or in an off-campus facility, whether for classes or to participate in institution-sponsored events, such as those enrolled in programs for individualized home study or conducted entirely via electronic media.
Requirements for Returning Students
If you are a returning student or a readmit student, and you submitted your vaccination information regarding Measles, German Measles (Rubella), and Mumps (Parotitis) to our Health Services within the past ten years, you do not need to submit this information again.
Under current New Jersey Law, Health Services must retain this information for ten years. After ten years, this information is shredded and discarded. If you are unsure, please contact the Health Services Office at (201) 200-3456, and we will check your immunization file to confirm that we have this required information.
In addition, if you are planning to reside in NJCU housing, you must also submit proof that you have received the meningitis vaccine. Failure to submit this documentation will prohibit you from living in housing after your initial semester.
All full-time students (12 credits or more) must have documentation of 3 Hepatitis vaccinations or a titer indicating immunity.
Proof of immunization can be found in your health care provider's office, your high school, or any previous colleges you attended.
Submission Deadlines
Submission deadlines for standard immunization records are below. Failure to meet deadlines will result in the inability to register for courses.

Immunization/Vaccination Exemptions

MEDICAL EXEMPTION REQUEST:
Exemption from requirements based on medical reasons must be submitted to the Health & Wellness Center in a signed statement from an official healthcare provider indicating a specific immunization is contraindicated due to a valid medical condition. This documentation will be reviewed annually.
EXEMPTION REQUEST DEADLINES:
- Fall Semester: August 1
- Spring Semester: January 10
- Summer Session I: May 10
- Summer Session II: June 5
- Summer Session III: July 15
GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY:
- Fall Seven Week Session I: August 1
- Fall Seven Week Session II: October 5
- Spring: Session I: January 10
- Spring: Session II: March 5
All exemptions will take seven to ten business days to be reviewed. Students will receive written notification to their NJCU email account regarding the status of their request.
Completing Immunization and Health History FAQ
You must upload your immunization forms on your NJCU Student Health Portal. Do NOT mail your forms.
You will be emailed once your record has been reviewed. You can also review your status by logging into the portal. Any missing requirements will be listed under your account.
Contact your former school or medical provider.
If you completed the Hepatitis B series in the past, you have two options:
- Receive a booster shot and recheck the titer in 4 weeks.
If you keep to the vaccine and titer schedules and submit documentation, you will remain compliant throughout the process, and your enrollment, registration, or rotations will not be held up.
You do not need to receive any additional vaccinations. Call us at 201-200-3456 to discuss the next steps.
Meningitis is required for ALL students under 19, first-year college students in housing, those with risk factors, and specific travelers with at least 1 dose since age 16.
Meningitis B is required for students with risk factors; asplenia, sickle cell, N meningitidis lab work, complement deficiency, or complement inhibitor use HIV travelers to/residents of areas with endemic meningitis.
Once data has been submitted, you may add additional dates but cannot delete previously entered data. HWC staff will delete errors during the verification process and input the correct information.
Send an email to hwc@njcu.edu to let the staff know about the mistake, and they will attach a correction to your record.
Please email us at hwc@njcu.edu You must include your full name, NJCU ID number, which school/program you are enrolled in, and the error number. These will be sent to tech ÃÛÌÒtv, and you will be advised by email.
Send in the records you have. We can translate many languages. If we do have difficulty, we will contact you for an official translation.
