The Writing Center: We Can Help With That!

The Writing Center is here to help all NJCU students at any point in their writing process, from note taking and brainstorming, to developing an argument and organizing their papers, to revising and learning to proofread. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment from home, or just stop by The Writing Center on the first floor of Guarini Library (across from Dunkin' Donuts) to see what we're all about and schedule a one-on-one session with one of our trained tutors.

Academic Coaching

We offer one-on-one academic coaching, focused on the student's specific needs, in The Writing Center. Visit  to see the range of offerings and to schedule an appointment.

Writing Workshops

The Writing Center offers occasional workshops on a variety of writing topics, such as getting started on your paper, using sources, and brushing up on grammar. Students can register for workshops at .

We are also happy to work with faculty to develop customized workshops, designed to ÃÛÌÒtv specific class assignments or activities. Please reach out to Dr. Ann Wallace, Director of The Writing Center, to request a class workshop and/or Writing Center tour.

ÃÛÌÒtv The Tutors
The Writing Center tutors are a blend of NJCU undergraduate students, alumni, and academics who hold advanced degrees or are currently working toward advanced degrees. Tutors work as General Writing Tutors in the Center, as well as in classrooms as Embedded Tutors.

Writing Center tutors receive ongoing training to develop student-centered, inquiry-based skills for ÃÛÌÒtving writers of all sorts. Focusing on higher order concerns of ideas and argument, organization and development, audience and use of evidence, tutors help clients develop their writing process and gain understanding of rhetorical strategies. Writing Center tutors do not edit student papers.

Tutors work one-on-one with students, in person or online. More experienced tutors also lead workshops, developed collaboratively by the tutoring staff.
