Summary
Dr. John Donnellan is a first-generation academic and the son of working-class Irish immigrants. He is a tenured Professor and Co-Chair of the Management Department at New Jersey City University (NJCU), where he has contributed significantly to advancing academic excellence, global engagement, and strategic leadership initiatives. In his roles as President of the NJCU Senate, faculty representative to the NJCU Board of Trustees, and member of the Local 1839 AFT union leadership, Dr. Donnellan exemplifies a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach to shared governance and institutional development.
Dr. Donnellan is a multiple-time Fulbright award recipient and serves as the NJCU Fulbright Liaison and Fulbright Alumni Campus Coordinator. His international teaching experience encompasses on-site academic engagements in China, England, Finland, France, India, and Mexico.

Risky business? Fulop adding Bitcoin ETFs to Jersey City pension fund portfolio
John Donnellan, a global business professor and chairman of the Management Department inside New Jersey City University’s School of Business, says the mayor has diminished risk to the city by investing in an ETF, which is regulated.
Donnellan says buying into an ETF is a “smart” way to diversify investments and provide a “nice bump” for the pension without a potential large loss. He said people are attracted to Bitcoin because “it is a non-sovereign nation currency” regulated “by the people.”
“The way I look at crypto ETF, just remove the word crypto, if I put energy or water ETF, who cares?” said Donnellan. “Nobody would mention anything. The minute you put in the word crypto there is a fear of the unknown because it is still not fully understood.”
