JERSEY CITY, N.J. | Newly-appointed (NJCU) Interim President Andrés Acebo has been named to the ROI Influencers Super 60 Power List for 2023 by ROI-NJ, a statewide leading business publication. Acebo was also named to the 2023 ROI Influencers Power List for Higher Education.
The Super 60 Power List recognizes the most influential leaders in the state of New Jersey. While the list primarily includes business, elected political leaders and other appointed officials, it does recognize seven leaders in higher education, including Acebo, despite being on the job for only a few weeks at the time of publication. |
Additionally, Acebo was one of just 25 chief executives and leaders across public and private higher education named to the Influencers Power List for Higher Education. |
The acknowledgement from ROI-NJ made earlier this month, comes less than a month into Acebo’s term as interim president. On January 13, 2023, the university announced his two-year appointment as Interim President to help lead NJCU out of the financial emergency it declared in June 2022. Acebo assumed the presidency on January 17, becoming only the second Hispanic to serve as the leader of a four-year public institution in the state of New Jersey, and at age 37, the youngest known president to ever lead a public university in the State of New Jersey.
Acebo said: “I am humbled to be mentioned in the same breath as so many influential and impactful leaders in our state. While I am still very early in my tenure and have just begun the incredibly important work that lies ahead, I’m honored by the recognition and accept it with the responsibility entrusted to be the faithful steward for the community that shaped me. I share this recognition with everyone on our campus that works dutifully day in and day out without ever receiving a public acknowledgement such as this, to make stories like mine possible.”
ROI-NJ debuted its Power 60 List in 2018 and added a Higher Education Power List in 2019. It publishes a more extensive ROI Influencers: Higher Education list each August, where it recognizes hundreds of people in higher education across the state.Created by Prospect Publishing Group and led by longtime industry leaders Tom Bergeron and Tom Hughes; ROI-NJ delivers real-time news and features that provide New Jersey’s diverse business community with a Return On Information, while creating dynamic engagements among influencers.
