JERSEY CITY, N.J. | (NJCU) Director of Student Media was recently recognized with the Ron Miskoff Award for Outstanding Journalism Educator of the Year by the New Jersey chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (NJSPJ).
Pavis, who joined the NJCU community during the 2013-14 academic year as an adjunct advisor and instructor in the English department before assuming her current role, oversees all student media, which encompasses newspaper, , and .
Pavis, on what being recognized meant to her, noted: "I'm really honored to be recognized for teaching journalism in New Jersey and I consider it a privilege to work with our students. They are extremely curious and they persevere even when I sometimes suggest they rewrite their articles. I am grateful that NJCU continues to be a place where student voices can thrive."
According to the judges "Her continued work to guide and work with her students on the coverage and creation of journalistic content speaks volumes to her dedication and teaching ability."
The has nearly 300 members and offers a range of workshops, advocacy and mentorship. The Ron Miskoff Award was presented on July 28, 2021 at an awards ceremony in New Brunswick, N.J. at a gala dinner attended by journalists from around the state and the Philadelphia area.
